Hopefully this is the proper place to post this....

The company I'm with manufacturer's and sells grounding and tower site
components. We have a couple of customers that regularly ask for waxed
string and fish paper. I know enough about these items to get my purchasing
department steered in the right direction, but what I don't know, is some of
the finer specs (.010", .015" .020") or in sheets or rolls. One would
assume the requestors/installers would know but as with many things in this
industry there is a 'customer requirement' but seems there is not a
'technical specification'. Can any of you switch guys provide some
    clarity?

    Many thanks in advance.

Good question Leo. I know there are a couple switch techs on the forum. I am sure they will step up and answer your question.

It's been awhile but the wax string I used in the past was 1/16th" in dia and came on a spool. White or black and I think there was about 500 yds on a spool.

The insulating paper we used came in sheets that were about 2' x 3' in size. We trimmed to fit.

Looks like Tessco sells it by the 10" X 24" Sheet 0.010 thick.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks SuperT!

This appears to be an internal at&t struggle with old-school switch inspectors QC'ing recent RBS installs with Goodman caught in-between and instructing their installers to comply. But I've been unable to get hard specs from anyone yet.

Thanks for your input as it tells me I'm close to the right path!

Hey Leo I may have your answer had an issue logging in.

You will need all 3 paper sizedand buy it in rolls for the bulk, you may need a few sheets but I doudt. and your wax string comes in 9 cord or 12 cord. I recommend 12 cord. The paper sizes are used for different applications the thin is used for single cables and small aplications. THe bigger you go the more cable in the bundle. Abam cable uses the mid grade and your thick stuff is mainly for your MCM cable. I think if you google cable lacing you should find what you need.
    Hope this helps

Thanks Mr. Rat! My requesting customers are working primarily one type of build for a partaicular carrier. They are lacing DC drops for Node Bs. Good info on the lacing cord strand count! We'll likely carry only one size of papar and am leaning towards 3" of 4" rolls.

    Thanks again!

A well done wax string cable rack is a thing of beauty. It seems to be a dieing art with the growing use of zip ties.

Waxed string and fish paper? Are we making a kite? I don't understand how a flimsy piece of string and fish paper works with cellular equipment. Have I missed something or is there more to this than what amounts to be an odd use for a couple of everyday items? Just curious as an outsider that isn't a techie, just a cellphone user.
